Google Maps is the best app for public transportation internationally. Download it before traveling abroad.
When you need to look up directions using public transportation, follow these steps:
Instructions for Using Google Maps 
- Open Google Maps.
- Type the destination in the search bar at the top of the screen.
- Click the blue “Directions” button.
- At the top you will see the starting point (your location is the default) and the destination. You can change the starting point if you need to. Be sure the destination is correct.
- Below that, there are several icons (car, public transport, walking man, biking man, and plane).
- Click the public transport icon. Maps will give you suggested directions using the forms of public transportation available in the area.
- You can also change the time and date of departure, or your desired arrival time (the options are directly below the transportation icons).
- Select the departure time you want (or leave it as is).
- Select your preferred route from the list of options.
- Click start and follow the directions provided
